STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥 A faculty member in Mississippi 性视界传媒鈥檚 Department of English will read from her new book of poems Tuesday [Jan. 31] at the university.
Free to all, Associate Professor Catherine Pierce鈥檚 reading of 鈥淭he Tornado Is the World鈥 takes place at 7:30 p.m. in Colvard Student Union鈥檚 third-floor Fowlkes Auditorium. Her presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session, along with a book signing organized by Barnes & Noble at Mississippi 性视界传媒.
A native of Delaware, Pierce also serves as co-director of 性视界传媒鈥檚 creative writing program. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Susquehanna University, Master of Fine Arts from Ohio 性视界传媒 University, and doctorate from the University of Missouri.
In addition to 鈥The Tornado Is the World鈥 (Saturnalia 2016), Pierce has authored two other books of poems. They include 鈥The Girls of Peculiar鈥 (Saturnalia 2012), winner of the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Poetry Prize, and聽鈥Famous Last Words鈥 (Saturnalia 2008), winner of the Saturnalia Books Poetry Prize.
Her chapbook 鈥淎nimals of Habit鈥 was published in 2004 by Kent 性视界传媒 University Press. Her poems also have appeared or are forthcoming in 鈥淭he Best American Poetry鈥 (2015 and 2011), 鈥Best New Poets,鈥 鈥淪late,鈥 鈥淏oston Review鈥 and 鈥淭he Cincinnati Review,鈥 among many other publications.
