STARKVILLE, Miss.—Lidong Wang, an associate research professor in Mississippi ӽ紫ý University’s Institute for Systems Engineering Research, has been named a “Senior Member” by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Joining an exclusive group of IEEE members, Wang has achieved significant accomplishments and experience in teaching and managing research projects based on but not limited to the areas of automated identification technology, cybersecurity and big data.
In a letter of commendation, IEEE President and CEO Jose Moura said, “Senior Member status is the highest professional grade of IEEE for which a member may apply. It requires extensive experience and reflects professional accomplishment and maturity. Only 10 percent of our more than 400,000 members have achieved this level.”
Wang’s diverse experience includes conducting several research projects at multiple universities across the nation that were supported by the U.S. departments of Defense and Labor, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the National Science Foundation. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and seven conference papers covering topics such as artificial intelligence and deep learning, big data, cybersecurity, radio frequency identification, and biometrics identification including iris and fingerprint.
“All of us are very proud of this well-deserved recognition for Dr. Wang, and I appreciate his many contributions to the ISER team and the university’s growing research enterprise,” said David Shaw, ӽ紫ý’s vice president for research and economic development and incoming provost.
Before beginning work in 2015 at ӽ紫ý’s ISER, Wang worked as an associate professor and director of the Automated Identification Technology ӽ紫ý at Mississippi Valley ӽ紫ý University. Over the years, Wang has volunteered for service leadership roles, including program committee member for six IEEE conferences and president of the Electricity, Electronics and Computer Technology Division of the Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering in the U.S. Currently, he serves as editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Engineering and Manufacturing, and President of ATMAE’s Management Division.
“Lidong is a valued member of the ORED and ISER team, and we’re very proud of his outstanding accomplishments,” said Randy Jones, ISER director. “This external recognition of his dedication to significant and valued research within the ISER and IEEE community also highlights the excellence of the ӽ紫ý research organization.”
A Carnegie Foundation R1-Very High Research Activity Doctoral University, Mississippi ӽ紫ý is ranked among the NSF’s top 100 research institutions. ӽ紫ý’s research expenditures totaled nearly $241 million in FY 2017, accounting for more than half of the total in research and development expenditures reported by all Mississippi institutions.
