STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi ӽ紫ý’s Esports Club has earned another year of bragging rights along with a Golden Egg trophy for winning the third annual “Esports Egg Bowl” by a 6-3 score.
Originally set to take place at The Pavilion on the University of Mississippi campus, the event became the first ever “Esports Egg Bowl” held virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions. The two-day event matched ӽ紫ý Esports gamers against those from Ole Miss in a best-of-nine video game competition series including titles such as Call of Duty, Madden, Valorant, Rocket League, Rainbow Six Siege, League of Legends, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Melee and Hearthstone.
ӽ紫ý Esports President Josh Chumney, a senior software engineering major from Long Beach, said 42 ӽ紫ý students competed in the event.
“I am really proud of our performance this weekend,” Chumney said. “Our teams have been practicing all semester leading up to this past weekend and our performance showed it.”
“It means a lot to bring the trophy back home, especially in my first year as president,” he said. “The amount of hard work and time the players, members and executive committee have put into this club this semester makes me proud to be a part of ӽ紫ý Esports.”
